A behind-the-scenes look at a new project I'm launching

I’m launching a small 4-week AI course for farmers and ranchers. But I have one big issue: I sold my main source of distribution for product launches like this.

Today, I want to give you a behind-the-scenes look at a new side project I’m launching.

It’s a 4-week live cohort class that teaches farmers and ranchers how to implement AI into their operation.

For those who don’t know me, I started a farm management software company called Harvest Profit about a decade ago. We competed against companies that raised tens of millions of dollars and had teams of 50 to 100+ people.

I raised a whopping $280,000, had a team of six, and we were acquired by John Deere in 2020.

I'm now passionate about leveraging my learnings along with technology to launch some new side projects. One of them is this email newsletter that you're reading right now.

But I'm even more passionate about sharing those learnings with other people like yourself.

One of those learnings I've had is that distribution is key to any business’ success. And that’s a big risk I’m dealing with in launching this AI course.

I lost my distribution

One of the most valuable assets I built at Harvest Profit was an email list of roughly 15,000 people. When I sold the business, that list went with the company.

So now, as I start this new AI cohort class, I have no email list. That’s a big issue for anyone launching a new product.

Key lesson for you: Build a list.

My main source of distribution for this course is my relatively modest following on Twitter/X (a little over 15,000 followers). But like most social platforms, it doesn’t give you much reach when you want to promote something new.

I’m launching this course with a fun, younger farmer who’s very progressive and has built a handful of powerful custom AI tools for his farm in west-central Minnesota.

His name is Michael Steeke.

We’re still nailing down pricing, but it will likely land somewhere in the hundreds of dollars per participant.

The reason I’m telling you all of this is that I’m going to share a behind-the-scenes look at how the course launch goes.

We’re planning to launch sometime in January, and later this week we’ll offer a limited-time discount for anyone who signs up before Christmas.

About a week from now, I’ll be able to share the numbers from that early signup period. Since I’m starting without a dedicated email list, I genuinely have no idea what to expect.

I’m confident it will be worth my time, but beyond that…who knows?

In a week, I’ll share the initial results. My hope is that it inspires you to look at your own career or niche, identify expertise you already have, and experiment with turning it into a product or service.

There’s no better way to learn than simply starting.

With that, I’ll see you tomorrow.
